Took a real ground test today. So here are my first thoughts about the new metal detector from XP.
Depth Impressions
Those who hope that the Deus II has become much deeper will not be disappointed. The device, at least in my soil, did not surprise me.
Yes, it became deeper on small targets. But I think Equinox owners can sleep well – some miracle (at least for now) did not happen. The standard default programs for depth are not good at all.
I also occasionally switched to mono mode on Deus II. If you overclock it, reduce the speed to 0, and turn on 8 kHz, it can pick up many medium-sized copper targets even clearer than basic programs like General.
As for the Goldfield program, which has already made a splash among the first testers, yes, it is the clear leader in depth. Again, especially if you take small targets. But the program itself is specific, and not suitable for all places.
Performance & Stability Impressions
Wow, yes – progress is evident! From time to time I caught myself thinking that the device was off. But that’s how it works.
Even at maximum settings and tweaked – it is silent as a fish. Sometimes, when the interference begins to appear – it is enough to tune out it, and again all is fine.
In general, there is a feeling that the device (firmware) is intentionally made understated by the characteristics in the interests of some future updates or performance additions.
Target Identification
All is well. I will not even describe where the previous Deus-I was wrong, here as a rule you can safely trust. But suspicious and borderline signals also dig as before!
Sound Impressions
But here it was a problem for me to get used to, understand, and study all the changes and various additions that were made to the sound schemes of Deus II. Sometimes I just fell into a snooze from some things that I just hadn’t reviewed and studied at home. In general, it feels like learning the sound will be the most difficult task in the first stage.
The Deus 1st polyphony was beautiful. I adored it on the lite, going only in polyphony mode.
And in the new one, it’s too unfamiliar to me. It feels like with the addition of frequencies comes a lot of low-frequency noise and grunt, which happens to undercut colored targets at extreme depths.
Also, many people, including me, liked to go on the discrimination 0, or even a negative value when it comes to depth. So – in Deus II during the tests, it seemed to me that in terms of depth, it does not make sense. Moreover, the minus one also felt that the low hum was clogging the deep targets, making them a little less clear.
Ground Balance
It takes longer to pump than on the first Deus. Values also do not match, I have an average of 3 units higher on Deus II. Although the default ground balance is at the factory preset 87 – on the contrary, 3 units lower.
It is pumped out as if in leaps and bounds. That is, turned on, it showed 87. Made 3-4 swings – set for example 84. Made 2-3 more swings – went down even to 79. A couple more swings – set 78 and then keep the same. Pay attention to this, so as not to give up pumping before time.
In general, the first impression so far is that the ground balance itself in this multi-frequency unit does not affect the operation of the device as much as in the Deus-1.
Deus II Programs
As I said, the pre-configured programs are rubbish.
It’s not that they are completely bad, no. But let’s say there is a feeling that the French engineers were still thinking in terms of categories and work principles of the first Deus when compiling them.
It was possible to choose many parameters even in the factory ones more optimally. The device became
- faster
- more stable
- more resistant to interference
- better at target detection
Then it would be worth adjusting the default programs according to these changes!
My choices are the 6th program for scouting, the 3rd program for littered areas, and 8-9 programs for repeated passage through valuable places. Naturally, we are talking about the programs, fine-tuned for yourself and a particular place, not the default ones.
Overall First Impressions
I don’t see why you should have to pay that kind of money right now.
If your place – where there is water, beaches, etc. – then buy it.
If you already own Deus I – most likely a new metal detector will not give you a wow effect, especially if you need depth.
Equinox does not make sense to change either. Only if you want to be a free tester.
Although I do not doubt that in a year or two Deus II will be much better. If you prioritize ergonomics, comfort, and speed in your metal detector, you are welcome.
P .S. This is a first impression, I may be wrong somewhere.
And in general, any test is subjective, friends draw your conclusions.
Conclusion
With identification, speed, and separation I do not doubt that everything is good here.
The device is very interesting and multifaceted, the more you get to know it, the more questions appear in your head. Although maybe it’s just me who has that approach. The other will simply grab the device and just go prospecting – and, in his way, he is also right.

SECOND program!!!
All that I found – found with. It is just super!!! A heap of colored targets, excellent separation even at depth, and any small targets can be caught at 20-25 cm.
